WOOD STOVE PIPES

A wood stove pipes is a sheet steel pipe that connects stoves to chimney inlets. To reduce the risk of fire, single-wall chimney flues must maintain a minimum distance of 18 inches from all combustible materials.

High quality black double wall chimneys are ideal for installations near locations where the distance to combustible material is less than 18 inches. This type of chimney provides maximum protection for your

walls and ceiling. Double-walled stovepipes also last many times longer than conventional single-walled stovepipes.

Chimney installation

The wood stove pipes connects the stove to the chimney. It is usually single-walled and comes in different lengths and shapes.

How much stovepipe?

  • You have to decide yourself how much stove pipe you need. Measure the distance from where your stove is on the floor to the chimney opening in a wall or ceiling. If the chimney opening is in a wall,

measure from the floor to the top of the opening, then measure the diameter of the hole.

  • Subtract 28 inches from the floor-to-ceiling measurement to determine the height of your furnace. For vented ovens, this is the height from the floor to the top of the elbow at the back of the oven. The number you calculate is the length of stove pipe you need.
  • You should also know that a 90 degree elbow is about 8 inches long and you need to subtract       two inches from the length for each piece of pipe. Because the individual pipe sections overlap each

other, the installation of a pipe length is five centimeters shorter than when purchased.

What end was reached?

  • All stovepipes have a crimped end (male) and an uncrimped end (female). For straight parts, the end with the pre-drilled holes is the unshrunk female end. The stove pipe is designed so that the male

end always faces the stove. Any condensation and debris in the pipe flows harmlessly back to the furnace instead of entering your home

  • In practice, it is difficult to connect two pipes, but this was done deliberately for safety reasons. Check that both ends are really round. If not, you may need a friend or a rubber mallet to squeeze

the tubes together. Once the tubes are connected, use the pre-drilled holes as a guide to drill a 1/8-inch hole in the crimped end of the pair and secure with the four screws.

Free space in the stove pipe

  • For all single-wall stovepipes, the minimum distance to combustible material is 18 inches. The minimum clearance can be reduced by 50% to 9 inches if suitable heat shields are attached to the

pipe or combustible material. We offer single-wall stove pipes in sizes 24 and 22. The smaller the size, the more durable the pipe. The Duravent stove pipe reduces the wall distance to 15 cm and the

ceiling distance to 20 cm. The Selkirk stove pipe reduces the distance to the wood stove pipes on walls and ceilings to 15 cm.

  • When connecting woodstoves to the chimney, stick to one make of chimney pipe. This ensures the most secure chimney pipe connection. Learn why a good cam connection is so important.
  • New fireplaces and wood stoves may smoke slightly and give off an odor when first used.
  •  This is normal curing of the paint on the pipe. Provide ventilation through an open window or door so that smoke and fumes can escape when you light your wood stove.

Black single-wall t-shirt and cleaning cap

Black heavy duty 22-gauge cold rolled steel T-shirt with cleaning cap. Use in conjunction with a vertical pipe for easy access for inspection and cleaning. Has a fixed T-nose with a female end.

Choose the optional stainless steel muzzle adapter to connect to the T-muzzle head for extra length and convert the T-muzzle to a male end. On wood stoves, the male ends must always point downwards into the fireplace/chimney. When burning with wood, you must clamp the T nozzle or use the mouthpiece adapter. Tip: If you want the stainless steel nose adapter to match the color of the black t-shirt, you can spray it with black heat resistant paint! Click for more
